Elie Wiesel, originally from Transylvania, was sent to Auschwitz with his family at the age of fifteen. After the war, he studied in Paris and became a journalist, writing over sixty books spanning both fiction and non-fiction. Wiesel has been recognized with numerous awards for his literary and human rights work, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Grand-Croix in the French Legion of Honor. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 and, together with his wife Marion, founded The Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, an organization dedicated to fighting indifference, intolerance, and injustice.
