About the Article

Since 1968, DAUM has collaborated with the greatest artists to sculpt, interpret, imagine or dream femininity. From Dali's Venus de Milo to Marie-Paule Deville Chabrolle's Memoirs of Women to Lui Li Rong's Lyrical flights of fancy, art makes women its muse and transforms into works of art.

. The Daum archives describe the first artistic attempts on the theme of women with Almaric Walter between 1905 and 1912, but the real momentum only came from the 1960s onwards. The first collaborations were signed as early as 1968 with the work Torso by Jacqueline Badord, followed by Baigneuse by Jean Pierre Demarchi. 1969, La Ronde by Yehuda Neiman, 1972, Nus by Roy Adzak. 1976, Psyche by Claude Abeille, Draped Venus by Olivier Brice or Paloma by Paloma Picasso in 1972 and Eurydice by Maurice Legendre in 1976. Since then, more than 70 artists have interpreted the woman at Daum for an infinite sensuality.

About the Artist

French sculptor Michel Coste, born in Aix-en-Provence in 1939, combines writing and sculpture in his work, particularly with natural marbles. His technique involves working directly on blocks found in streams, which is recognized as an original and unique approach to form.

Coste began working with Daum on "pâte de cristal" for its clarity, luminosity, and the translucency it lends to faces and bodies, giving a fresh look to his work. His sculptures Une Aurore and Marine are silhouettes of women frozen in amber "pâte de cristal," where light, transparency, and opacity all come into play.
