Depictions of animals have been among the preferred themes of the Daum manufactory since the beginning of the 20th century. It was Almaric Walter with Antonin Daum who inspired the animal movement under the influence of naturalism and the Art Nouveau movement. The manufactory then created decorative objects made of glass paste and realistic animal sculptures with a very astonishing polychromy.

About the Artist
Carlos Mata was a Spanish sculptor, born in 1949 in Palma de Mallorca and passed away in July 2008. The countryside, landscapes from his childhood, horses, and bulls served as sources of inspiration for the artist. In his work, he experimented with elementary forms and utilized the various colors, textures, and irregularities of oxidized cast iron. For Daum, he created Troya and Cabeza. Troya, a majestic piece with vibrant colors, transports us to memories of the renowned Trojan horse. Cabeza, with its beautiful curves and striking color variations, amplifies the imaginative dimension of the artwork.
