In 1842, David Haviland expanded the artistic heritage of Limoges, the world capital of porcelain, and turned it into a centre of boundless creativity. He thus began the history of the Haviland family, whose name is still known today as a synonym for the art of French luxury. Originally a merchant, David Haviland founded an import company for ceramics and porcelain in New York in 1838.
