Born in Nantes, France in 1942, Alain Thomas is a celebrated artist, storyteller, and painter who began his career in the 1960s. His contemporary art invites us on a journey through exotic landscapes and the stunning Russian forests. Thomas is widely recognised in the French art scene as a leading representative of "naïve-primitive" painting. Since 2003, Thomas has collaborated with Haviland, a renowned porcelain manufacturer, to create gastronomic experiences by applying his masterpieces to porcelain. The result is a stunning collection of trays, vases, and dinner services featuring various depictions of flora and fauna in over 15 colours. In the first dinner service collection, toucans and parrots bloom on porcelain pieces, illuminated by a world of flowers and wildlife. Through a perfect mastery of pattern and an exact reproduction of Thomas' works, Maison Haviland showcases an exceptional colour palette and emphasises the intricate details of each painting. Together, they create a truly remarkable collection of porcelain art that showcases the beauty and skill of both the artist and the manufacturer.
Today, Haviland produces many different decorative objects, such as trays, vases, candlesticks, but also unusual objects like porcelain wall panels and chandeliers. Since its foundation, the company has had a proud reputation for furnishing the most beautiful tables with porcelain tableware. Today, interior designers are keen to source traditional and modern pieces from Haviland to furnish the most beautiful homes and create a refined atmosphere.
In 1842, David Haviland expanded the artistic heritage of Limoges, the world capital of porcelain, and turned it into a centre of boundless creativity. He thus began the history of the Haviland family, whose name is still known today as a synonym for the art of French luxury. Originally a merchant, David Haviland founded an import company for ceramics and porcelain in New York in 1838.
