About the Décor

Hand painted decorations involve the use of brushes to create artwork, which requires years of learning and practice to master. The precision of the strokes and the skilled use of colors are evident in the final product, where the worker becomes an artist.

Chromolithographic decorations involve the process of affixing a sheet of paper by hand onto white porcelain using the decalcomania technique. The paper is then soaked in water to separate the motif from its support, and the decoration is produced through different printing methods. The factory has its own silk-screen printing workshop to print its decorations.

The third technique used for applying decorations at J.L Coquet is spraying. Craftsmen use a spray gun to apply a carefully measured amount of paint onto the pieces while they are on a lathe. Each piece is weighed to ensure that the decorations are consistent in quality and quantity, resulting in plain, delicate, or intense colors depending on the amount of paint used.

Inlay is a delicate form of decoration that involves the use of chromolithography and sandblasting techniques. Skilled craftsmen create refined and elegant decorations on porcelain through this method.
