About the Technique
The Soffiato technique gets its name from the fact that craftsmen blow air into a long metal rod connected to the glass to stretch and shape it - a tradition in glassmaking that goes back thousands of years. The experience and skill of the master glassmakers, combined with this ancient process, transform simple glass into true artistic masterpieces, unique in their kind.
About the Designers
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Carlo Scarpa continued his training and took on various positions until 1977. After the Second World War, he achieved international fame through major exhibitions in Venice, including the Paul Klee exhibition at the 24th Biennale, the Art Book Pavilion in 1950 and the Italian Pavilion at the 26th Biennale. He began working at VENINI as early as 1932 and served as artistic director until 1946. During this long period, he left a lasting mark on the world of fornace (glass kiln), designing models that have gone down in history and exploring refined techniques.
