About the Technique
The Soffiato technique gets its name from the fact that craftsmen blow air into a long metal rod connected to the glass to stretch and shape it - a tradition in glassmaking that goes back thousands of years. The experience and skill of the master glassmakers, combined with this ancient process, transform simple glass into true artistic masterpieces, unique in their kind.
About the Designers
Gio Ponti is known for his work as an architect and designer who designed houses, public buildings and everyday objects, and also excelled in painting and scenography. He was one of the leading exponents of the new architectural trends of the 1930s, which is reflected in some of his Milanese buildings such as the Tower House in Corso Venezia, the Rai and Ferrania buildings and the Torre Littoria in the Sempione Park. An outstanding work from 1956 is the Pirelli skyscraper he designed. Gio Ponti also designed important residential complexes in Europe, the Middle East, Canada, the USA and South America. His collaboration with VENINI began as early as the 1920s, during which he designed lights and objects.
