Abaco combines the most ubiquitous shape in the known universe - the sphere - with the oldest method of calculation, which is symbolised by the oldest instrument. These two aspects combine in radiant glass.
About the Technique
The mista technique refers to the combination of several techniques used by the master to create objects of precious glass with a special character. The balanced mix of several techniques gives the work a strong character and enriches its identity.
About the Designers
Monica Guggisberg and Philip Baldwin have been working together since 1980. Their artistic career began with their studies in Sweden with Ann Wolf and Wilke Adolfsson (1979-1981), followed by 20 years working in Switzerland, where they founded their own studio in 1982, and later in Paris, where they settled in 2001. Their reputation is based on the simplicity of their forms and the intensity of their colours in their works. Originally trained at the Scandinavian Glass School, in recent years the artists have begun to explore Italian glass art tradition and technology. Their creations can be seen in exhibitions in Europe, America and Japan, as well as in many museums. In 1996, they began their collaboration with VENINI, designing both vases and lamps.
