Crystal shades of aquamarine blue, red and grass green surround the base of the rounded glass, as if the glasses had fallen off the face. The collection Where are my glasses has a somewhat unusual name, but it is very appropriate. The glasses are actually made of glass and produced in the fornace (glass furnace). But don't worry, they are still wearable!
About the Technique
The Soffiato technique gets its name from the fact that craftsmen blow air into a long metal rod connected to the glass to stretch and shape it - a tradition in glassmaking that goes back thousands of years. The experience and skill of the master glassmakers, combined with this ancient process, transform simple glass into true artistic masterpieces, unique in their kind.
About the Designers
Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1951 and graduated from the Architectural Association in London after studying at the Art Academy in Jerusalem. There he founded the design and production agency One Off together with Caroline Thorman in 1981, followed by the architecture and design studio Ron Arad Associates in 1989. In 2008 he expanded the company to include Ron Arad Architects. Arad was a design professor at the Hochschule in Vienna from 1994 to 1997 and later a professor at the Royal College of Art in London, where he taught until 2009. In 2002 he was appointed Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) for "excelling in creating aesthetic and efficient designs for industry". In 2011 he was awarded the London Design Medal and two years later he was elected a member of London's Royal Academy of Art. Arad's focus on experimenting with materials such as steel, aluminium or polyamide and his original reinterpretation of forms and structures has earned him a leading position in contemporary design. With the creation "Where are my glasses?" he continues his experiments at VENINI.
