The magnificent duck looks at the viewer exuberantly, as if inviting him to admire it for a while longer, simply because it is beautiful. Although Toni Zuccheri's creatures are mute, they attract attention. This could be due to the crystal feathers, masterfully decorated with precise stripes.
Perhaps it's their peaceful and sedate nature, or their rounded shape, accentuated by the funny thin neck - the mere sight of an anatra (duck) has a calming effect.
The Battuto technique of cold working puts the skill and delicacy of the master glassmaker to the test. The hammered glass is characterised by a surface shaped by hand with the grindstone, with countless small, seemingly irregular marks.
Toni Zuccheri inherited his love of animals from his father, the animal painter Luigi Zuccheri. After attending the Faculty of Architecture in Venice, he began working with VENINI in the 1960s. His first works were animal figures made of polychrome glass, worked with precious techniques such as the "murrine". In collaboration with Gio Ponti, he developed the new glass window system "Vetrate Grosse". Later, he expanded his glass production with new colours and themes and participated in numerous exhibitions worldwide. Today, his works can be seen in important museums.
