The angular heads in Mimmo Rotella's works wear massive masks or glasses to better explore their surroundings. Their gaze seems transfigured and slightly gloomy as they remain motionless in the midst of a moving world, for they themselves are replicants. The Replicanti table lamp is a tribute to these works.

About the Technique
The Soffiato technique gets its name from the fact that craftsmen blow air into a long metal rod connected to the glass to stretch and shape it - a tradition in glassmaking that goes back thousands of years. The experience and skill of the master glassmakers, combined with this ancient process, transform simple glass into true artistic masterpieces, unique in their kind.
About the Designers
Mimmo Rotella was born in Catanzaro in 1918 and studied art in Naples before moving to Rome. There he experimented with various techniques such as photography, photomontage, decollage, assemblages of objects, phonetic poetry and primitive music. Rotella's work was quickly recognised by avant-garde critics and collectors. In the late 1960s he developed the "Artypoplastiques", prints, colours and perceptions reproduced on rigid plastic supports. In the 1990s, he painted portraits of the masters of 20th century art on decollage works, gaining worldwide fame. For VENINI, he designed the "Replicanti" series, luminous figures designed for use in homes. He also created the "Sasso" lamp made of hand-blown glass, which captivates with a special play of reflections. In the process, the glass mass is heated to high temperatures and blown into the shape of a stone.
