Gabrielle Chanel was a designer who had an unparalleled ability to anticipate the evolution of contemporary fashion. Her modern concept of luxurious minimalism revolutionized the lifestyle of her era, elevating fabrics such as jersey and tweed to couture status and creating a sophisticated and understated new silhouette. Chanel's modern spirit of understated luxury left an indelible mark on the twentieth century. The house of Chanel continues to represent modern fashion, having been founded on the style of the modern woman, as embodied by Gabrielle Chanel herself. Her emancipated designs reflected the changing landscape of society and fundamentally influenced what women wear and how they wear it. Under the leadership of Karl Lagerfeld, the house transformed fashion yet again by reviving its own history and creating a blueprint for the modern fashion house.Chanel: The Impossible Collection is a curated selection of 100 iconic and signature looks of the house of Chanel, including the Little Black Dress, tweed suit, perfume bottle, two-tone pumps, strands of faux pearls and stones, and diamond-quilted leather handbag. Fashion journalist Alexander Fury selected the images from editorial photographers, museums, and private collections, showcasing rarely seen archival photos in this handcrafted Ultimate Collection volume, making it the ultimate compendium for fashion enthusiasts.
