About the Artist
Gérald Vatrin was born in 1971 in Nancy, a city known for its history in glasswork and crystal making. He is recognized as one of Europe's top master artisans specializing in glass sculpture and glassblowing. After studying at the Beaux Arts National School of Fine Arts in Epinal, France, he pursued training in glass arts and techniques, with a focus on freehand glassblowing. The unique qualities of glass and its transformation from liquid to solid fascinate Vatrin, inspiring him to create works that showcase the material's complexity. Using hand-blown and hand-shaped glass, he incorporates elements like engravings, enamelling, leather, and cuttings to magnify his pieces. Vatrin's sculptures are influenced by his personal experiences and travels, reflecting his encounters with diverse cultures. His works are exhibited worldwide in prestigious collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Dutch National Glass Museum.
