About the Work

Delve into the rich heritage of textile craftsmanship in Uzbekistan, a legacy with roots dating back to ancient times when trade routes placed the region at the center of the known world. "Silk & Gold: The Magnificent Art of Costume" whisks you away to nineteenth-century Uzbekistan, where the costumes of the emirs of Bukhara epitomize opulence. Experience the zenith of craftsmanship embodied in ceremonial chapans, lavishly embroidered in gold, and discover suzani wall hangings, ikat silk, and exquisite jewelry, each carrying profound symbolism and time-honored techniques passed down through generations. This immersive journey is brought to life by the expertise of Yaffa Assouline and the captivating imagery captured by Laziz Hamani. It unveils the high art masterpieces that have captivated global museums and collectors, providing insights into diverse patterns, influences from the Great Silk Road, and the enduring creative exchange between artisans and the world of trade.
