The Monofiori (single flower) piece by VENINI from 1970 appears soft and yet it is made of glass. The name Balloton reveals the optical illusion created by the unique processing: a matelassé effect on the surface. The piece is made by hand. It is blown into the characteristic metal shape and finished off at the narrow neck with a hot-applied glass thread in a different colour.
The 1970s saw the first installations and art became increasingly conceptual and expressive. In this climate of change, the forms of the classical broke out of their schemata. The Monofiori Balloton collection is an example of how traditional forms can be brought into new contexts.
The Balloton technique uses a metal mould with small square pyramid peaks along the entire circumference of its inner surface. When the glass is blown, it fills the vacuum completely, creating a unique optical relief that looks like a criss-cross pattern.
VENINI achieves its excellence through the unique combination of exclusive techniques from the Murano tradition, which are preserved by experienced master glassmakers. Artists from all over the world contribute to the experimental creativity and exceptional colours are selected. Nothing is left to chance in the fornace (glass furnace). The high quality is the result of the constant search for perfection and the passion for innovation found in every phase of production. A perfect balance is achieved between craftsmanship and bold creativity that is far removed from fleeting fads. By choosing VENINI, one creates one's own priceless work of art that captivates through culture, beauty and workmanship.
