In the introduction, André Leon Talley, a fashion editor and friend, describes how Valentino Garavani approaches his luncheons and dinners much like he approaches his forty-plus-year career as one of the greatest haute couture designers and high-fashion leaders in the world, with crescendos and allegros vivace.

Valentino’s passion for beauty and entertaining is evident throughout his homes, where he creates warmth and joy for his guests. Talley notes that entering Valentino’s world is like entering a rare and opulent yet warm space, evoking the joy of sharing and delivering a magnificent dining experience in a setting of wonder and originality.

Photographed by Oberto Gili and organized by residence, this book showcases various table settings and recipes specific to each home, from a flan au chevre served on Portuguese porcelain at his ski chalet in Gstaad to Italian-inspired home cooking like risotto Milanese at the Chateau de Wideville, his favorite residence.

Valentino, a legendary fashion designer and master couturier, founded his eponymous fashion house in Rome in the late 1950s and established an illustrious career designing for the world’s most glamorous women. Despite retiring from fashion in 2008, Valentino continues to follow his passions for beauty and entertaining.

André Leon Talley is a former Vogue contributing editor and American editor-at-large. He served as Artistic Director of Zappos Couture in 2014 and has been a Board of Trustee for the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia since 2000. Talley is also the author of several monographs, including Valentino (1982), a limited edition book for Franco Maria Ricci, A. L. T.: André Leon Talley (2003), and Little Black Dress (2013).

Oberto Gili discovered his passion for photography at a young age, but it wasn't until he saw Michaelangelo Antonioni's film Blow-Up that he decided to become a photographer. He started his career as an assistant to Michael Joseph in London before moving to Milan to work for L'Esperto in the early 1970s. Gili has been traveling the world taking pictures ever since and has worked for Condé Nast, New York Magazine, and The Washington Post Magazine.
