About the Author

Gianni Riotta, hailing from Palermo, Sicily, was born and raised in the vibrant city. His father, Salvatore, served as an editor at Giornale di Sicilia and often took Riotta along on their explorations of the island. Riotta's illustrious career includes notable positions such as the editor of Rai's Tg 1, Italy's foremost television news program, and the editorship of Il Sole 24 Ore, a renowned Italian financial daily. Having previously written as a columnist for Corriere della Sera in New York, he currently contributes his writings to La Repubblica. His insightful perspectives have graced the pages of esteemed publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Financial Times.

Riotta is also an accomplished author, having penned two captivating novels that showcase the allure of Sicily: "Prince of the Clouds" (published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux) and "The Lights of Alborada" (published by HarperCollins). In addition to his literary endeavors, Riotta imparts his wisdom as a teacher at Princeton University and serves as the dean of the journalism school at Luiss University in Rome.
