Empress Farah Pahlavi, the first queen in Iranian history, devoted herself to serving the Iranian people, creating museums and festivals throughout the country. With the help of Sotheby's, Christie's, and the Met, she amassed an extraordinary collection of modern art, including pieces by van Gogh, Picasso, Bacon, and de Kooning. Empowering young Iranian artists and commissioning works from renowned artists such as Henry Moore and Chagall, she aimed to establish Iran as a cultural leader. She even invited a young Andy Warhol to the Royal Palace. However, everything changed after the Iranian Revolution in 1979. Iran Modern: The Empress of Art reveals Farah Pahlavi's journey from Empress to exile and sheds light on the impressive collection of contemporary art she left behind, which has been largely forgotten.

About the Author

Viola Raikhel-Bolot is a co-founder of Vanishing Pictures Productions, as well as the Managing Director and co-founder of 1858 Ltd Art Advisory, an international firm that works with prominent figures in the modern art and collecting industry. She provides advisory services to private banks, family offices, fashion and luxury brands, and museums. Her expertise in the arts has led to her being featured in various international press outlets, including the Financial Times, CNBC, CNN, and Bloomberg, as an authority on the global art market.

Miranda Darling is a writer and co-founder of Vanishing Pictures Productions. She is the author of two thrillers and a novel and has also worked on several documentaries as a writer and consultant. Prior to studying English and Modern Languages at Oxford, Miranda traveled the world as a fashion model and worked for PAPER magazine in New York. She holds a Masters in Strategic Studies and Defence from the ANU (GSSD) and was an adjunct scholar at a public policy think tank (CIS), where she extensively published on the topic of new security threats. Miranda is also a regular contributor to various magazines.
