The Bosphorus strait in Turkey is steeped in history, dating back to ancient Greek, Roman, Persian, and Byzantine times, and spanning through the Ottoman Empire to the present day. It is a region that is rich in culture, architecture, style, and cuisine, serving as the intersection of Europe and Asia. A host of creative minds such as Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Louboutin, Nicky Haslam, and Cher have been captivated by its beauty and inspiration. The skyline is a stunning view of serene waters and magnificent bridges that never ceases to amaze Turkish locals and visitors alike. However, it is within the private homes of its gracious and hospitable residents that the true style of the Bosphorus is revealed, a harmonious blend of old and new that pays tribute to the country's glorious past while embracing its promising future. Each resident exudes a distinct personality, each with a unique tale that ties them to this captivating slice of the world. Bosphorus Private is a tribute to these vibrant personalities, presenting twenty homes that encapsulate the fusion of two continents, a myriad of creative influences, and thousands of years of history.
Nevbahar Koç grew up on the Bosphorus and spent many years living in Los Angeles, where she earned a fine arts degree from Loyola Marymount University. She is now based in Istanbul with her family and is involved with the Açkkap Social Responsibility Association, which focuses on supporting children in need. Her love for art, design, and photography, combined with her deep appreciation for Istanbul, served as inspiration for this book. Irem Kinay is Assouline's partner in Turkey and has collaborated on several of the publisher's previous titles, including The Grand Bazaar Istanbul, The Light of Istanbul, and Ottoman Chic. After a career in banking and finance, she followed her passion for the arts and books to join Assouline. Since opening in 2010, Assouline Istanbul has been a destination for a wide variety of titles and stylish accessories. Kinay has also collaborated with artists and designers exclusively for Assouline, showcasing her keen sense of style.
